Old Hickory, along with the communities of Hermitage and Donelson, comprise a planning area known at Sub-area 14. Every 7 to 10 years the Metro Nashville Planning Department gathers community residents to create sub-area plans which guide growth and development in those areas in ways consistent with the desires of both residents and businesses alike. The Sub-area 14 plan was adopted in 2004 and should be up for revision and renewal soon.
