Community Meeting on Lakewood Park

State Representative Mike Turner and Councilman Darren Jernigan will be hosting a meeting concerning the former Lakewood park that has now been turned over to Metro. The Parks Department will make a presentation on creating a “Friends of” group and to discuss the current status of the park. Time and location are as follows:

Tuesday, May 22^ndHermitage Community Center
3720 James K. Lane, Hermitage
6:30pm – 8:00pm

Village Arts Festival

in Historic Old Hickory Village

Join us for a Spring arts & crafts festival featuring over 30 artists and vendors, live music, food, and a silent auction. This fundraising event will help fund community space & equipment in & around the Jacob’s Well coffee shop at the former Village Salvage.

Details:
Where? 1050 Donelson Ave, Old Hickory TN. Booths will be outside the Old Hickory Village Community center and next to the new coffee shop. The Silent Auction will be inside the community center 12-3pm.

How Much? Entrance is free – but we ask that you bring several food items to donate to the Christian Community Outreach Center. Help us fill a truck with non-perishable food (not out of date please) Everyone who brings a food item will get a free coffee or tea drink from Jacob’s Well! Bring 2 and get a free vanilla cone coupon from Sonic also!

Grand Opening of Life Care Center in Old Hickory Village!

The day has arrived when Old Hickory Village welcomes the opening of the Life Care Center at 1250 Robinson Road! This facility is a wonderful addition to the area and the Chamber is thrilled to have this new business in Old Hickory. The public is invited to attend the “Grand Opening Celebration” on Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. where there will be tours of the new facility, Hors d’oeuvres, door prizes, and demonstrations.

We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday to welcome this new business to our community.

May Meeting to Focus on Area Businesses

The May meeting of the Old Hickory Area Chamber will be a very special one in that we are pleased to feature presentations from four of our newer member businesses. This special “spotlight” program allows you to learn more about area businesses, and gives them an opportunity to tell you what they are excited about in our region.

Our presenters are:

Dr. Rhett Bruner of ActiveLife Chiropratic and Rehab
Ron Brown of Execufit Wellness Center and Trendy Blends
Charles Trombley of Jet’s Pizza
Cindi Moore of Beacon Literacy

Each presenter will have 5-10 minutes to talk about their business and take questions from the audience.

The May meeting will be on Tuesday, May 1 at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Hickory Country Club (just off Old Hickory Blvd in Old Hickory). Lunch is available for $10 per person.

Bring your business cards to share and come join in a great time of networking and fellowship.

April Chamber Meeting — 10 Ways to Generate Business

Communications expert Deborah Varallo will be the featured speaker at the April 3 meeting of the Old Hickory Area Chamber of Commerce, speaking on 10 ways to generate business. Deborah is an Old Hickory resident and the founder of Varallo Public Relations, a leading PR firm in the area. Deb is also widely known as a community leader, serving as the chair of The Davidson Group, and on many boards of directors for local non-profits. Ms. Varallo is widely acclaimed for her expertise in corporate communications, and we believe all will benefit from what she has to offer.

In addition to Ms. Varallo, Sarah Franklin of Leadership Donelson/Hermitage M3 will be talking about their program.

The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Hickory Country Club. Lunch is available for $10, and credit/debit cards are accepted.

Old Hickory As A Leisure Destination

The March meeting of the Old Hickory Area Chamber of Commerce will be featuring a special panel discussion on how our community can better support the recreational opportunities throughout the region. The panel will features representatives from Blackjack Cove Marina, Hermitage Golf Course, Riverside Golf Course, Lakewood Theater, and the Hermitage. This will be a conversation between the panel and the audience about how we can best position our community as a place where folks throughout Middle Tennessee will want to come and play.

The Old Hickory Chamber meets on the first Tuesday of every month. This meeting will be on Tuesday, March 6 at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Hickory Country Club.

A Super Bowl to Remember

Still no plans for the Super Bowl? Come join your friends in Nashville for an evening of football, food and dancing. Come together, not only for this but to help grant wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions. When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, life for this child then becomes a routine of doctors, hospitals and sickness; childhood is lost among the struggles for survival. A wish gives a child more than a dream vacation or a meeting with their hero. It gives the child the chance to imagine and dream, to forget the long journey of illness for a while. This event has been spearheaded by Gabe Pizzello, owner of Gabe’s Electronics in Hermitage. More info can be found here.

A Note of Thanks from an Award Winner

Dorothy Ballenger was named as the 2011 old Hickory Citizen of the Year at our recent Christmas Banquet. A long-time member of the community, Dorothy has offered leadership both through her faith commitment in area churches, but most importantly in her work with kids as the Children’s Librarian at our local library. Dorothy was utterly surprised by the award, and wrote the following note to share with the members of the Chamber.

My dear friends,

Surprised! That’s me!
Humbled! That’s me!
Grateful! That’s me!

I am at a loss for the words adequate enough to express my thanks for the honor you so graciously showered upon me. I feel totally unworthy. There are so many of you who have poured your efforts into our own special niche in this wonderful nation. Each of you should be thanked for acting upon your commitments toward keeping Old Hickory a singularly blessed haven for all who live here.

I want to thank all who even thought of my name as a possibility. Imagine that! Spence Talley’s introduction was a great surprise. When he mentioned the recipient was his neighbor I looked around trying to find the “other person” from our street. I’m still curious to find out who gave him so much of my “history.”

I’m thrilled that my son was able to accompany me and that my sister and her husband could be there also. We will have a memory to share. This was a night to cherish!

Coming in February — Marketing Via the Internet

The next meeting of the Old Hickory Area Chamber will focus on using the Internet in your business. John W. Ellis, our featured speaker, is an Internet marketing guru, focused on helping businesses use the Internet more effectively in promoting their business. John is based in Hendersonville, and has spoken at events across the United States.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Hickory Country Club (1904 Hadley Ave., just off Old Hickory Blvd.) A buffet lunch is available for $10 per person. Registration is not required, but it would be helpful if you could let us know that you are coming by filling out the form below. Credit cards are accepted.
